Case #2 – August 15-19

Egedal, Innovation Lab

Egedal – A new town on old municipal boundaries.

Planning and transformation.

Challenge: You can contribute with inputs to develop a visionary urban strategy capable of creating an appealing community with a common identity integrating the fragmented areas and creating better connections in between them.

Case: Right on the border between town and countryside, Egedal Municipality is in the process of shaping a new urban area, Egedal, which is intended to become the new centre of the municipality. Earlier, the area was a district between two towns and municipalities, which have now merged into one. Therefore, the entire area lacks a sense of joint community as well as a clear common identity. In the future, this area will eventually merge with a third area, Maglevad.

Maglevad, which is an industrial area, is very complex and made up by industrial production, service and administration companies, private housing and schools. The question is: how can this district be transformed into an attractive joint area linking all three surrounding neighborhoods together?

Additionally, there is a very busy road with heavy traffic running through the area acting as a significant barrier between the different parts of Egedal – this also needs to be taken into consideration.

Advisors will join the lab on-site during  1-3 sessions, where they will give direct feedback on ideas and work in progress, presented by participants.
